Joseph Martin Kraus was born in 1756, the same year as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He came from Miltenberg am Main and at a young age became Kapellmeister at the court of the Swedish king Gustav III in Stockholm. On a grand European journey he also met Joseph Haydn in Vienna, who admired the young colleague immensely.
Dmitry Ablogin is a master of the piano music of this Classical style: of its wit, its sensibility and its spirit of improvisation. In conversation with our festival dramaturge Jan Brachmann, he will tell of the unusual life path of Joseph Martin Kraus, who died as young as Mozart, just one year after him, in Stockholm in 1792.
