Dear festival audience
Sweden is especially close to us on Usedom. From 1648 to 1720 the island belonged to this great kingdom. The son of the Swedish Chancellor of the Realm resided at Wasserschloss Mellenthin, right in the centre of Usedom. From the bailiff at Pudagla the taxes were collected with which Sweden's Queen Christina, after her abdication, paid for commissioned works by famous composers in Rome. There are therefore many reasons for us to once again place Sweden at the heart of the Usedomer Musikfestival.
Swedish stars such as clarinettist Martin Fröst and soprano Christina Nilsson — who debuted last year in Bayreuth — appear alongside jazz pianist Martin Tingvall. With the Ensemble NeoBarock we commemorate the 400th birthday of Sweden's Queen Christina. With Nobel literature laureate Selma Lagerlöf and little Nils Holgersson we fly on the back of the gander Martin from Scania all the way to Lapland, and with the novel "Sunday's Children" we dive into the childhood of Ingmar Bergman, "the greatest film director of all time", as the Cannes Film Festival once called him. The Baltic Sea Philharmonic and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra will thrill you in Peenemünde. The witty and virtuosic vocal quartet Lemon Squeezy awaits you right by the Baltic shore. From medieval folk tunes to ABBA hits — there is something for everyone.
Curious? Then come and visit us!
