Once again this year, the Baltic Sea Music Forum 2018, which has become a tradition, will take place at Schloss Stolpe/Usedom.
The internationally renowned cellist, chamber musician and conductor David Geringas will be the artistic mentor of the master classes for musically gifted students from 24 September to 2 October. The master classes and concerts are an exceptional platform for concentrated work with renowned artists and programmes that closely follow the focus of the Usedom Music Festival. is one of the most versatile musicians of our time. An unusually wide repertoire from the earliest Baroque to contemporary music characterizes the Lithuanian cellist and conductor. In 2006, Federal President Horst Köhler awarded him the First Class Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit for his overall achievements as a musician and ambassador of the cultural state of Germany in the international music scene and throughout the world. From 1963 to 1973 David Geringas studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Mstislav Rostropovich. In 1970 he won first prize and gold medal in the Tchaikovsky Competition. Famous contemporary composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina, Peteris Vasks and Erkki-Sven Tüür have dedicated works to him. As a conductor David Geringas is regularly represented on podiums in Germany and abroad. Since 2005 he has been Chief Guest Conductor of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra Japan.
